6A football adopts March Madness-inspired state tournament

Minnesota's biggest class of high school football is getting a major makeover for its state tournament.

Class 6A football, a group 32 schools in Minnesota, will debut a March Madness-style state tournament this fall, the Star Tribune reports. The format change was approved by the Minnesota State High School League board of directors on Thursday.

The 32 teams will be divided into four sections, with each section holding teams seeded 1-8.

Previous 6A tournaments used a four-section format where first-round winners advanced to play a "crossover" game with a team from another section. The new format will eliminate the second-round crossover games.

“It’s good for 6A football,” said Rick Sutton, head coach of the Eagan Wildcats. “It rewards teams for their seed but it also rewards teams that get an upset victory and play above their seed. It should create a lot of excitement.”

Report: East Ridge QB Seth Green leaving Minnesota

Minnesota's top football recruit in the Class of 2016 might be leaving the state to play his senior season at a high school in Texas.

The Pioneer Press, citing sources, reports that East Ridge junior quarterback Seth Green is moving to Texas to follow his father, Bryan Green, who the sources say is being relocated for work. KSTP's Darren Wolfson also reports that Green won't return to the Woodbury school for his senior year.

"That is not true," Green's father told the Pioneer Press. "Do not call him (his son), and do not call me."

Regardless, Seth Green will eventually head to Oregon to play for the Ducks, who he committed to play for last October.

At Oregon, Green will have enough uniforms to last a bunch of lifetimes.
