You have heard of the three peat, but the Concordia St. Paul volleyball team has more than doubled that. The Golden Bears won their seventh straight NCAA Division II National Volleyball Championship on Saturday night.
Concordia (35-3) defeated BYU-Hawaii (29-2) in straight sets to win the national title. The Golden Bears won 25-15, 25-14 and 25-20.
The Star Tribune reports Concordia's win snapped a 22 match winning streak for the Seasiders.
The run of championships for Concordia began in 2007 and with Saturday night's victory it becomes the longest streak of consecutive volleyball championships at any level of NCAA athletics. It is also the fourth longest streak is also tied for the fourth longest Division II championship streak in any women's sport.
Over that span of seven years Concordia St. Paul has won 42 consecutive NCAA Tournament matches.
The seven total championships is more than any other division II program. The next closest is Portland State with four.
