8 NDSU football players snared in election fraud case
Eight current North Dakota State University football players, including four starters and one former player are among 11 people expected who are tied to a ballot fraud case, the Fargo Forum says.
Investigators say the players were paid to gather signatures for two ballot measures and that they faked names on the petitions. The petitions were thrown out and the measures will not be on the ballot.
The players will suit up for this weekend's game against Colorado State and remain on the team roster while criminal charges against them are resolved, the NDSU coach said, the Associated Press reports.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said some names on the petitions were copied from phone books or fabricated, the AP says. One name was signed Hillary Rodham, with an address listed as the White House, according to the AP.
