Adrian Peterson leaves Vikings practice early with leg injury

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was forced to leave practice early Tuesday after suffering an apparent leg injury.

According to 1500 ESPN, Peterson went to the ground during an inside run drill and was slow to get up. After returning for one play, the 30-year-old running back walked to sideline with trainer Eric Sugarman and went inside the locker room.

There is no official word on the severity of the injury, but the early word is that it's not too serious.

"He got tangled up," Vikings running back Jerick McKinnon told reporters. "A defender fell on him, but he said he was alright. Everybody knows Adrian's got a cape on. He'll be back out here tomorrow. I don't think anybody's worried about him."

Peterson missed all but the first game in 2014, while dealing with charges of child abuse and a suspension from the NFL. The Vikings went 7-9 without him.

He did not play in Minnesota's preseason opener in Sunday's Hall of Fame game, and he is not expected to appear in any preseason games.

Peterson's return to the Vikings this season is one of the major reasons the team has been selected by many NFL experts to be a surprise contender for the playoffs.

Earlier Tuesday, Bovada gave Peterson 12-to-1 odds to win the NFL's MVP award in 2015, behind only Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
