After 3rd period collapse, Wild lose to Stars in OT

Dallas Stars 4

Minnesota Wild 3 (OT)

The Minnesota Wild held a three-goal lead in the third period Saturday night. But the Dallas Stars scored four straight times, the last in overtime, to claim a 4-3 victory at the Xcel Energy Center.

1) Three-goal lead evaporates in third

How did it happen? Former Gopher Alex Goligoski got Dallas started early in the third. Next it was Jamie Benn scoring his league-leading 18th goal off a Mikael Granlund turnover while the Stars were shorthanded. Defenseman John Klingberg tied the game with 5:43 left in regulation. And Tyler Sequin scored the winner in the 3-on-3 overtime off a feed from Benn.

2) Yeo yells

The Wild have now lost three in a row and have just one regulation win in their last seven games. The Star Tribune reports that coach Mike Yeo lit into his team after Friday night's loss to Winnipeg, was stern with them again Saturday morning, and "sprayed his team with angry words" during a timeout after Dallas's tying goal. But Seguin scored the winner in OT on the Stars' 44th shot of the night.

3) Were there any silver linings?

The gloomy finish is hard to overlook but for those in need of bright spots, there are a few candidates. Jason Pominville, whose 21 straight games without a goal marked the longest drought of his career, broke through with a goal in the second period (after Thomas Vanek and Charlie Coyle goals in the first). Backup goaltender Devin Dubnyk made 40 saves. And Justin Fontaine returned to the Wild lineup and notched as assist after missing 11 games with a sprained knee.

Tweet of the Night

After a painful loss like this, we couldn't get enthused about the sad and snarky tweets from Minnesota ... or the joyous and gloating ones from Texas. So here is a mystery tweet filled mostly with words we don't understand.

The Wild will try to shake off their three-loss week when they turn the calendar to December and face the Blackhawks in Chicago on Tuesday night.
