Ankle injury might not slow All-American WR Higgins against Gophers

Colorado State's best offensive player has been slowed by an ankle injury but is expected to play Saturday when the Rams host the Golden Gophers in Fort Collins, Colorado.

According to the Coloradoan, All-American wide receiver Rashard "Hollywood" Higgins sprained his ankle in Colorado State's Week 1 victory over Savannah State – but not before he hauled in 7 receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown ... in the first half.

“I’m expecting Rashard to play,” Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo said Wednesday. “We’ll see what happens. He’s got a sprain, there’s nothing broke, so I expect him to be out there Saturday.”

One ESPN anchor called Higgins the "best player we've never heard of."

Per the Pioneer Press, Higgins was held out of practice on Tuesday.

How important is Higgins to Colorado State's offense? Consider this simple fact: He led the nation with 1,750 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns last year as a sophomore.

Critical stat on Higgins

While Higgins has dominated smaller schools, the Pioneer Press notes that he's averaged just under 6 catches and 66 yards in six games against teams from Power 5 conferences. That said, Bobo believes Higgins has the same level of talent as Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green, whom Bobo coached at the University of Georgia.

"He's similar to those guys. ... I believe he's going to be in the (NFL) for a long time," Bobo said.
