Coming to a duck hunting license near you: a wigeon painting that has Minnesota's stamp of approval.

A creation by Roseville artist Edward DuRose was selected as the winner of the 2016 Minnesota Migratory Waterfowl Stamp contest run by Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources, it was announced this week.

His painting of an American wigeon beat off competition from 14 other artists who entered the annual contest, which started in 1977.

It is the second time DuRose has won the competition, but it's been a long time since he was last a winner, with his image of a ring-necked duck coming first in 1994.

The collectible stamp will be available to any hunters buying their waterfowl stamp validation for the upcoming season, with the stamp costing an extra 75 cents on top of the $7.50 validation fee.

Anyone not intending to go hunting but still wants the collectible stamp can hand over $8.25 to the DNR, with revenue from stamp sales being put towards a good cause, the funding of waterfowl management and habitat work across the state.

You can pick up a waterfowl validation and stamp here. This year's waterfowl season will open in two weeks, on Sept. 26.

The species that will feature on the 2017 duck stamp designs will be the redhead.
