Another crazy expensive event announced for Super Bowl week

At least this time it's for a good cause – and by a local organization.

Another day, another high-profile event announced for Super Bowl LII week with ticket prices beyond the means of most Minnesotans.

This time it's the Taste of the NFL – a nonprofit dedicated to hunger relief – that's selling tickets to its annual, Super Bowl Eve "Party with a Purpose" on Feb. 3 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.

Guests will be able to sample more than 45,000 tastings courtesy of "renowned chefs from the 32 NFL cities" (Minnesota's will be Corner Table's Thomas Boemer) as well as rub shoulders with current NFL players, Hall of Famers and alumni, an announcement says.

There will also be live music from "notable performers" (past acts include the Bare Naked Ladies) and the chance to meet "noteworthy celebrities" (Simone Biles and Caroline Wozniacki attended last year).

A ticket for the event? That'll be $700.

Now on the plus side, this is a charity event that will see 100 percent of proceeds going toward food banks in each of the 32 NFL cities, plus it raises awareness of hunger problems facing America.

And despite having a national reputation, Taste of the NFL is actually a Minnesota-based organization, first set up in 1992 by Edina restaurateur Wayne Kostroski.

So of all the expensive events you could could pay for on Super Bowl week, at least this one has its roots in Minnesota.

But at the same time, $700? That is a steep outlay for football fans hoping to get involved in some pre-Super Bowl buzz.

Super Bowl will be an expensive week

The past month has seen a string of Super Bowl week concert announcements, including Jennifer Lopez, Chainsmokers, Pink and Imagine Dragons at Club Nomadic's Mystic Lake and Minneapolis Armory venues, general admission for which starts at $200.

Meanwhile, tickets for three nights of events at the Lumber Exchange, including appearances by Rick Ross, Jamie Foxx and DJ Diesel (aka Shaquille O'Neal) start at $249.99 per night.

And another foodie event, the 2018 Players' Tailgate Party hosted by Guy Fieri, will set you back $750.

That's not including the cost of going to the game itself, the average price for which you can expect to be around $2,500.

One of the more reasonably priced events is The Night Before Show on Feb. 3, featuring the Dave Matthews Band at the Xcel Energy Center, tickets for which are $70-$130.

That's not to say that there isn't plenty of free stuff to do in the Twin Cities during Super Bowl week – 19 free concerts have been announced as part of the Super Bowl Live festivities on Nicollet Mall, for example.

But it seems that any paid-ticket event being held on Super Bowl week is going to set you back a small fortune.
