Former Vikings Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield has decided to retire, ending a 14-year career that included 11 in Minnesota.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Winfield, cut by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this preseason, was outed by Seahawks Coach Pete Carool on Twitter: "“Wishing Antoine Winfield the best in his decision to retire. He’s a consummate pro and a great team player. We were lucky to have him."

The Pioneer Press, quoting a league source, confirms the news.

Winfield, who signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks after being released by the Vikings, drew interest from several teams. But the Seahawks terminated his contract, and the 14-year pro decided to retire instead of pursuing other opportunities.

Winfield was a salary cap casualty of the Vikings, and he signed with the Seahawks after a handful of teams wooed him.

He was three-time Pro Bowler.
