Duke point guard Tyus Jones, Minnesota's 2014 Mr. Basketball winner, is entering the NBA Draft.

The official announcement came from Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Just nine days ago Jones, a true freshman, led Duke to the National Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. On Monday, Jones was at Target Field helping Kevin Garnett throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Twins' home opener.

It's been a whirlwind for the former Apple Valley basketball star.

“Coming to Duke was a dream of mine and being a part of such a special team was amazing,” Jones said in a statement. “I knew coming in I would be a part of a great team, but I never envisioned I would be a part of such an incredible family. That is what has made winning a national championship such an amazing experience. I am faced with the tough decision of returning to a place I love or pursuing my next dream. With the support and guidance of my family, my coaches, my teammates, and Duke University, I have decided to start my professional career. Even though I am entering the NBA Draft, I will forever be a Duke Blue Devil.”

Jones is projected to be a first-round pick, but "Coach K" expects the soon-to-be 19-year-old to get a lot better.

"He’s going to get a lot better, but people have already seen him and know how he handles himself, especially in pressure situations and in the biggest games," Krzyzewski said.

The latest mock draft from NBADraft.net has Jones going 17th overall.

Jones joins former Robbinsdale Cooper and UNLV standout Rashad Vaughn as Minnesotans from the high school Class of 2014 to enter the NBA Draft.
