Apple Valley standout Gary Trent Jr. helped to lead the USA men's Under 17 basketball team to the FIBA world championship on Sunday in Spain.

The U.S. finished the tournament at a perfect 7-0 – winning every game by double digits.

The highly recruited guard played a pivotal role. He started all seven games and averaged 12.7 points per game – second most on the team. Trent also led Team USA with 17 points in the 96-56 victory over Turkey in Sunday's championship.

Here are a few of the highlights from that championship game:

The Star Tribune notes that Trent's had a history of standout international play. He led the U16 team to a world championship last year, and was named the tournament MVP.

He is being highly sought after by several major universities including Minnesota, Duke and Kentucky among others.

Trent helped lead Apple Valley to a state title in 2015 and return to the semifinals in 2016.
