At least 3 cyclists injured in MS 150 ride between Duluth and Hinckley

An accident during the MS 150 bicycle ride Saturday has left at least three cyclists injured, though news reports differ on the exact number of injuries.

WCCO reports three cyclists were injured after one went down and the other two crashed into the first biker on Saturday during the MS 150 Ride to Duluth.

KARE 11 reports the number injured is unknown, according to MS Society spokesperson Anna Kucera, while KSTP-TV reports that "several" riders have been injured.

Kucera told WDIO-TV the accident happened near Sandstone on the Willard Munger Trail and the injured were sent via ambulance to area hospitals. Rider Tony Nagorski told WDIO that a volunteer stopped bikes on Highway 61 saying a helicopter may be landing on the road.

There was a helicopter on scene, but Kucera said no one was airlifted -- victims were taken to Sandstone Hospital. KARE 11 reports organizers stopped all bike traffic while three ambulances arrived at the scene, while 'CCO says it's four.

Kucera said the MS Society would not release the conditions of those riders due to medical privacy policies.

KSTP says 3,500 riders registered for the event.
