Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth innings to lift the Detroit Tigers to an 8-6 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

The blasts by Hunter and Cabrera broke open the game after they tied it up at six in the bottom of the eighth. Both Jared Burton and Glen Perkins were unavailable, so Casey Fien pitched the ninth and was tagged with the loss.

Joe Mauer drove in four runs for the Twins. He was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. He tied the game in the eighth with a two-run single to left field.

Oswaldo Arcia homered in his only hit of the game, but he left in the eighth inning with an injury.

Tigers' reliever Kyle Ryan (2-0) picked up the win. He got Eduardo Nunez to ground into a double play to end the eighth inning after the Twins tied the score at six. Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Tigers' starter Max Scherzer gave up four runs on seven hits through seven innings.

It was a rough start for Anthony Swarzak, who lasted just 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs.

Swarzak got the start for the Twins as Tommy Milone was scratched again. The team says an MRI on Milone's neck showed inflammation.
