Badgers top Gophers 3-2 at Hockey City Classic

The Hockey City Classic was nothing close to being a classic as the Gophers were dumped by the Wisconsin Badgers, 3-2 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The only thing classic about it was that it was played outdoors with poor ice conditions.

Minnesota owned the first-period by outshooting Wisconsin 15-6 over the first 20-minutes, but none of the shots found the back of the net. The tide turned in the second-period.

Wisconsin scored three goals in a three-minute and 19-second stretch of the period. Kevin Schulze, John Ramage and Sean Little scored the goals.

The Gophers scored twice in the third period -- Seth Ambroz and Zach Budish -- but the late rally fell short.

After the weekend of WCHA games the St. Cloud State Huskies are still in first place with 31 points. Nebraska-Omaha is one-point back in second place. Minnesota State is in third place with 29 points. The Gophers and North Dakota are tied for fourth with 28 points.

The first game of the Hockey City Classic was won by Notre Dame as the Irish defeated Miami, 2-1. Minnesotans Mario Lucia -- Don Lucia's son -- and Anders Lee scored for Notre Dame.
