Baker could start the season on DL

Scott Baker is scheduled to start the Twins' home opener against Albert Pujols and the Angels on April 9th, but a case of elbow tendinitis may prevent that from happening. Baker is scheduled to throw bullpen sessions Saturday and Monday, but there is a chance he doesn't join the Twins' rotation until the second week of the season.

Baker's elbow injury similar to 2011 strain

MRI results of Scott Baker's right elbow were similar "structurally" to the right elbow strain that kept Baker out for 18 days last season, according to the Twins. Baker is going to get a second opinion, but according to the Twins, it's unlikely that Baker misses a significant amount of time.

Twins stretching out relievers in case Baker and Marquis aren't ready to start

There is a growing concern that Scott Baker and Jason Marquis won't be ready to start the regular season on time. Baker is recovering from elbow tendinitis and Marquis is at home with his daughter, who was seriously injured in a bicycle accident. The backup plan is to have relievers ready to start, and Anthony Swarzak, Matt Maloney and Liam Hendriks are all being stretched out just in case their number is called.

Scott Baker had Tommy John surgery

In a surprise move, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. He was supposed to have a different operation to repair a tendon in his right arm, but Dr. David Altcheck saw that Baker needed the more serious operation. Tommy John surgery usually keeps pitchers out 12-18 months.

Baker 'O.K.' with Tommy John surgery

Scott Baker spoke to the media on Friday for the first time since having season-ending Tommy John surgery. When he found out he needed the operation, he says he was "O.K. with it." The right-hander also said he did everything he could to try and pitch through his elbows problems, but it "just wasn't going to happen."

Baker out for the season, attention turns to Marquis, Hendriks and Swarzak

Baker looks good in spring debut

Scott Baker pitched two hitless innings as the Twins beats the Rays, 3-2 in spring training action Tuesday. Baker finished last season with a 3.14 ERA, but his season was cut short because of an elbow injury. He says "there’s peace in the fact I’m doing everything I can to stay healthy.”
