Be Safe: Vikes up against 'Bountygate' D-coordinator

Mike Zimmer wanted to fight Gregg Williams for a cheap shot on Teddy Bridgewater in 2015.

It's been two years since Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer called longtime NFL coach Gregg Williams a dirty defensive coordinator.

It happened after the Vikings beat the Rams 21-18 in 2015 when Zimmer thought Rams defensive back Lamarcus Joyner purposefully elbowed Teddy Bridgewater in the head, leaving the quarterback with a concussion.

"I agree that it was a cheap shot," said Zimmer that day, according to "(Gregg Williams') defenses are all like that. If we were on the street, we probably would have had a fight."

Here's the play Zimmer was angry about

Speaking Thursday in London, Zimmer said he's over the incident and he hasn't seen anything on film that would indicate that Williams is encouraging cheap shots.

Of course, Williams and dirty defense go hand in hand. He missed the entire 2012 season with a suspension stemming from the Bountygate scandal that rocked the 2009 NFC Championship Game between the Vikings and Saints.

Has Williams changed? Maybe, but he's still not the nicest guy in the world. Just last week he was asked to comment on Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota's hamstring injury.

His response: "I hope his hamstring's hurting a lot."
