The chances of an all-Minnesota Frozen Four have increased slightly after Bemidji State walloped Wisconsin 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the East Regional in the NCAA tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Beavers are in the regional final where they await the winner of Massachusetts and Lake Superior State, of which the Beavers could very well be favored considering they knocked out the Badgers, who were the No. 4 overall seed in the field of 16.
Minnesota-Duluth advanced to the Midwest Regional final in Fargo after their first-round opponent, Michigan, withdrew from competition due to positive COVID-19 tests.
Three other Minnesota teams – the Gophers, Minnesota State-Mankato and St. Cloud State – will play in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
- St. Cloud State vs. Boston University - 12 p.m. (Northeast Regional)
- Minnesota State-Mankato vs. Quinnipiac - 4 p.m. (West Regional)
- Minnesota vs. Omaha - 9 p.m. (West Regional)
The only chance at an all-Minnesota final is if Bemidji State wins the East Regional, St. Cloud State takes the Northeast Regional, UMD wins the Midwest Regional, and the Gophers or Minnesota State-Mankato advance to the Frozen Four from the West Regional.
All in all, the chances aren't too bad.
