Former DeLaSalle star Jamison Battle announced Monday that he's transferring back to his home state to play for the Golden Gophers.
Battle, who averaged 17.3 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore at George Washington this past season, becomes the first commitment to new Gophers head coach Ben Johnson.
Battle will have two years of eligibility remaining. The former Minnesota prep star is a 6-foot-7 forward who can score from all over the floor. He shot 36.2% from three as a sophomore.
Battle was ranked the eighth-best player in the NCAA transfer portal by ESPN, though that was a Mar. 12 story, since when other highly rated players, including Gophers point guard Marcus Carr, entered the portal. Regardless, ESPN said Battle had already received interest from Arkansas, Arizona, Marquette and Tennessee.
In a more recent update on transfer rankings by 247Sports, Battle was No. 10.
DeLaSalle won the state championship Battle's senior season. He scored 26 points in the championship game and was named to the All-State second team.
