Best of Wolves media day; Rubio still not 100 percent healthy

There are plenty of storylines to follow as the Timberwolves open training camp Tuesday.

  • Sam Mitchell coaching in place of Flip Saunders, who has cancer
  • Kevin Garnett back for what could be his final season
  • The superstar potential of Andrew Wiggins
  • The arrival of Euroleague MVP Nemanja Bejelica
  • The hometown kid Tyus Jones
  • Karl-Anthony Towns' impact on the team
  • Nikola Pekovic's health

But it can be argued that the No. 1 talking point into the season is the health of point guard Ricky Rubio, who, according to the Star Tribune, still isn't 100 percent healthy as he continues to work his way back from a severe ankle/foot injury he suffered in the 22nd game of the 2014-15 season.

General manager Milt Newton said Rubio will be eased into training camp, although he's been cleared to participate in all 5-on-5 drills.

“I’m feeling good. I’ve been working all summer to be healthy," Rubio said, "I’m pretty sure I’m going to be fine.”

Chip Scoggins wrote that Rubio, even with potential superstars Wiggins and Towns, remains the Timberwolves' "most important" player.

As for Rubio's developing shooting skills, he said he made 89 of 100 3-point attempts on Sunday night – his new personal best, according to Canis Hoopus.

Pekovic is expected to miss the entire preseason schedule and won't be ready to return to the court for another 6-7 weeks, he said, per Canis Hoopus.
