Big day for Peterson as Vikings crush the Chargers

Adrian Peterson ran for two touchdowns helping to lead the Minnesota Vikings to a 31-14 victory over the San Diego Chargers, Sunday afternoon at TCF Bank Stadium.

Peterson carried the ball 20 times for 126 yards and the two touchdowns. Peterson's two-yard touchdown run was his first since Nov. 24, 2013 – a span of more than 140 carries for the 30-year-old running back.

Peterson's second touchdown run also moved him into a tie for second on the Vikings all time list.

Teddy Bridgewater didn't have his best day. He completed 13-of 24 passes for 124 yards and an interception.

The Vikings dominated the game, but were out gained by the Chargers 369 to 284.

Minnesota took the lead late in the first quarter after a strip sack from Anthony Barr in San Diego territory. The Vikings offense didn't do a lot, and Blair Walsh capped it off with a 24 yard field goal.

The offense got going in the second, setting up Peterson's first touchdown with an 11 play, 67 yard drive, and pushing the Vikings lead to 10-0.

The Chargers answered before the half when Philip Rivers connected with Keenan Allen on a 34 yard touchdown pass. On the play Vikings corner back Xavier Rhodes collided with safety Andrew Sendejo, and was forced to leave on a concussion. Rhodes did not return.

But it didn't seem to hurt the Vikings defense any. In the fourth quarter Chad Greenway intercepted a Rivers pass and returned it 91yards for a touchdown. The Vikings defense kept Rivers under pressure all afternoon.

The Vikings improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory. They play at Denver next Sunday.
