Local members of Black Lives Matter are teaming with the Minnesota Lynx fans to fill Target Center on Friday night as the Lynx host the New York Liberty.

The event, called Stand With the Lynx, comes after four Minneapolis police officers walked off the job while working at last Saturday night's Lynx game. Before the game, some Lynx players wore black pre-game warm-ups featuring the names of two black men shot by police.

One of those men, Philando Castile, was shot during a traffic stop last week in the St. Paul suburb of Falcon Heights.

WCCO notes that the move to fill the Target Center came in direct response to comments from Minneapolis Police Union head, Bob Kroll, who called the Lynx player protest "anti-police."

Kroll added that there were only four officers working because "the Lynx has such a pathetic draw."

Kroll's comments drew harsh criticism from both Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and police chief Janeé Harteau.

The Lynx may have a larger crowd anyway. The team is hosting the New York Liberty, and it's the Breast Health Awareness Game.
