As the legendary Brett Favre set foot on Lambeau Field Saturday, he had a welcome fit for a hero, or rather a Green Bay Packer Hall-of-Famer.

Favre was greeted with a roaring applause and a standing ovation in the packed stadium.

In his career with the Packers, Favre started in 16 consecutive season without missing a single game, according to Packers.com.

He was a three-time MVP quarterback, the Associated Press reports.

Favre rather infamously was traded to the New York Jets in 2009, then joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2009 before his retirement.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports Favre hasn't returned to Lambeau in five years. He told the Press Gazette he was nervous to come back, but the crowd gave him a roaring welcome.

Favre fought back tears, telling the crowd, "I didn’t think I would get emotional."

He thanked the fans whom he thinks made his induction possible: "I can’t tell you thank you enough. I’m honored. But I want you to know I celebrate this with you and my teammates in this room," Favre said. "I thank you because we did this together."

In his 20 NFL seasons, Favre scored 508 touchdowns - the second most in NFL history - and a total of 71,838 passing yards, the most in NFL history. He made two Super Bowl appearances, including the 1997 Super Bowl XXXI win over the New England Patriots.

We'll see one more Favre moment at Lambeau Field. On Thanksgiving night, his retired number will be officially unveiled at the stadium.
