Brewers blast May, Meyer as Twins get thumped in series opener

The Milwaukee Brewers jumped all over the Twins early on Friday night, then held on for a 10-4 victory in Milwaukee.

Brian Dozier led off the game with a home run – his 15th of the season. But the Brewers evened up the game just as quickly when Gerardo Parra matched Dozier's leadoff blast with one of his own.

But Milwaukee was far from done in the first inning, as they scored five more times and chased Twins starter Trevor May after just 1/3 of an inning.

May gave up six runs, while retiring just one Brewers batter. Alex Meyer then made his major league debut and got the next two hitters to fly out to get out of the disastrous inning.

But things didn't go as smoothly for Meyer in the second inning. He gave up four runs on three hits, including two home runs in just 1 2/3 innings, and the Brewers opened up their lead to 10-1 after just two innings of play.

That was more than enough run support for former Twin Kyle Lohse to end his five-start losing streak, as he picked up his first victory against the Twins. Lohse pitched six innings, giving up four runs on six hits.

Trevor Plouffe added a homer for the Twins. He was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Joe Mauer was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Twins.

The series will continue on Saturday with Minnesota sending Kyle Gibson to the mound against another former Twins starter, Matt Garza.
