Bringin' It: Thursday's Top 5 Minn. sports storylines
Happy Thursday! If you're still near a computer during the March heat wave, here are the top five headlines we're watching today:
1)The WCHA Final Five begins today at the X. The afternoon session pits Michigan Tech against Denver..and in the nightcap it's St. Cloud State against North Dakota. The winners advance to tomorrow's semifinals against the Gophers and UMD Bulldogs.
2) The Timberwolves are in Utah tonight looking for their second straight win on the road. With Ricky Rubio out for the rest of the year, Minnesota's chances of making the playoffs rest primarily on Kevin Love's shoulders. This month, he's been great -- averaging more than 32 points a game.
3) The girls' basketball tournament moves into the semifinal stage today for Class 3A and 4A. So far, top seeds Richfield and Hopkins are still in the mix. The Class A quarterfinals also start today.
4) The Twins made a few cuts this morning in Fort Myers. Nine players are gone from the major league roster, including pitchers Lester Oliveros and Scott Diamond. The Twins have 57 players left in camp -- 27 are pitchers.
5) Oh, back to Ricky Rubio. If you haven't seen this video of the injured rookie tooling around Target, have a chuckle on us.
