Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl – a sponsorship, not a menu item

There will be at least one Minnesota team at a college bowl game this season.

ESPN reports Golden Valley-based Buffalo Wild Wings will sponsor what will be known as the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, to be held in Orlando, Florida. The game pits SEC and Big Ten teams against each other.

The Orlando Sentinel notes the New Year's Day game was previously sponsored by Capital One, which has shifted its title sponsorship to the Orange Bowl. Capital One was the corporate sponsor of the Citrus Bowl since 2001, but did not use the Citrus Bowl moniker as part of the name.

Buffalo Wild Wings had sponsored a bowl in Tempe, Arizona, the past two seasons but the Business Journal noted it dropped its sponsorship in July.

The Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, which seats 65,437, is in the midst of a $207 million renovation to upgrade the 78-year-old facility. The stadium has had numerous updates, but the original construction was done by the Works Progress Administration.
