UMD ends 6-game winning streak with loss in Nebraska

The University of Minnesota-Duluth ended the nation's longest active winning streak Saturday night when it fell, 4-1, to the University of Nebraska Omaha.

The Bulldogs split the weekend series, after rallying back for a 3-2 victory over the Maverick's Friday for their sixth consecutive win.

“We lost the game we should’ve won and probably won the game we shouldn’t have won,” UMD coach Scott Sandelin, quoting his assistant after the game, told USCHO.

No. 8 Duluth tallied an early lead with a first-period goal from sophomore Kyle Osterberg, but Omaha kept the Bulldogs in check the rest of the game – Maverick's netminder Ryan Massa made 39 saves.

The Bulldogs outshot Omaha, 40-18, including 13-3 in the final 20 minutes of the tilt.

No. 16 St. Cloud splits series with No. 2 UND

St. Cloud State University split its weekend series with No. 2 University of North Dakota after losing, 3-2, Saturday night.

UND tallied two quick first-period goals, and despite St. Cloud outscoring North Dakota, 2-1, in the final 44 minutes of the tilt, the Huskies failed to close the lead.

Duluth native Trevor Olson tallied his first two collegiate goals for UND Saturday – the first of the game, and what proved to be the game winner. And to make those goals even sweeter, it was his 21st birthday, UND notes.

On Friday, No. 16 St. Cloud State's Jonny Brodzinski's netted two third-period goals Friday to lead the Huskies to a 3-1 win over North Dakota – UND's first road loss of the season.

SCSU is 5-6-1, 2-3-1 NCHC. Next up for the Huskies is a pair of road games at Bemidji State next weekend.

No. 9 Mankato sweeps No. 1 Michigan Tech

No. 9 Minnesota State University-Mankato netted a pair of third-period goals Saturday to complete its sweep of No. 1 Michigan Tech with the 3-2 win.

This came a day after MSU-Mankato scored two third-period goals to hand Michigan Tech its first loss in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest Friday night, NCAA says.

Minnesota State has now won four games in a row and seven of its last eight, MSU-Mankato says.
