In a cost-cutting move, one of many in the NFL over the last few days, the Lions have released former Vikings wide receiver Nate Burleson.

Burleson caught 39 passes for 461 yards and a touchdown last season, one that was marred by a September car crash that was reportedly related to pizza falling in his back seat.

The 32-year-old broke his arm in the crash trying to save the pies, but had a light-hearted view of the incident, even celebrating his only TD of the year in late November by pretending to deliver a pizza.

Burleson spent the first three years of his career with the Vikings, leading the NFL in yards after the catch one of those years, before moving on to Seattle and then proceeding to spend four years with Detroit.

The 11-year veteran of the league said of the move "I can't blame them."

Detroit also released starting safety Louis Delmas today, a move that will save them a hefty number against the salary cap.
