The Gophers men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at Williams Arena Tuesday night, falling to Iowa 77-75. The loss drops the Gophers to 0-5 in the Big Ten.
Jarrod Uthoff's fade away jumper with 3.5 seconds remaining broke a 75-all tie and gave the Hawkeyes a lead. A last second attempt by DeAndre Mathieu to tie the game on a layup came a few tenths of a second too late.
Minnesota made a mad rally in the second half, digging their way out of a double-digit halftime deficit to take a lead down the stretch. Joey King's three-pointer gave the Gophers their first lead of the night at 67-65 with just over 6 minutes to play.
The closing moments were a battle, but Iowa put together one last run in the final minute to tie it up, and eventually reclaim the lead on Uthoff's jumper.
Uthoff finished with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Hawkeyes.
The Gophers (11-7, 0-5) host Rutgers on Saturday.
