Buxton recalled by Twins as Hicks goes on the DL

Byron Buxton is on his way back to the Minnesota Twins as an injury replacement for outfielder Aaron Hicks.

The Twins announced the roster move following Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the New York Yankees.

Hicks injured his hamstring in the game and was placed on the 15-day disabled list, making way for Buxton's return to the big leagues.

Buxton played in 11 games for the Twins before a sprained thumb sidelined him for six weeks. He returned to action at Triple-A Rochester two weeks ago and has since impressed with a .412 batting average and at least one hit in all 13 games he's played since returning to action.

He extended the streak with an RBI double in the Wednesday afternoon game.

Buxton's return to the Twins will allow him to play with Miguel Sano at the MLB level for the first time. Buxton was injured June 24 and Sano didn't make his debut until July 2.

In 39 games since his debut, Sano is hitting .291 with 9 home runs, 10 doubles and 29 RBI.
