Caleb Thielbar: From Saint to Twin in just 21 months

How does a Twins fan survive a six-game losing streak? A streak which has once again put the team in a last-place hole that they just might not escape?

One strategy is to enjoy the achievements of individual players.

Monday night, that player was left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar, a Randolph, Minn., native who was called up from Triple-A Rochester for a shot at pitching in the majors.

During Minnesota's 5-1 loss to Atlanta, Thielbar pitched two scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Thielbar, who the Twins plucked from the St. Paul Saints roster in August of 2011, rocketed through Minnesota's minor league system and found himself in Atlanta last night -- dream come true.

"There were some butterflies with it," Thielbar told the Pioneer Press. "Just have to remind yourself it's the same game: 60 feet, 6 inches. Just go out there and throw strikes."

Thielbar, 26, is the first Saint to pitch in the big leagues for the Twins. His promotion could be short-lived, however, as Minnesota needs to call up a starting pitcher to replace Pedro Hernandez in the rotation by Friday.
