Carli Lloyd's goal gives USWNT win over France; likely #1 seed

The United States Women's soccer team defeated France on Saturday at the Olympics in Rio 1-0 thanks to Carli Lloyd's goal in the 64th minute. It was Lloyd's 90th career goal and 8th in Olympic play.

It was a rough first half for the women's team, they committed multiple turnovers and struggled to create much of any offensive chances, but Lloyd's goal in the second-half made up for the team's early deficiencies.

It was also a historic game for goaltender Hope Solo, who picked up her 102 shutout and became the first goalteneder to ever appear in 200 games.

The women's team entered the game the top seeded team in the world while France was seeded third.

Combined with their win over New Zealand earlier this week and a win over France on Saturday, this puts the U.S. in solid position to be the top seed in the knockout round after group play concludes.
