CBS: Obama wins Wisconsin

President Obama has won the key battleground state of Wisconsin, Fox News, CBS News and NBC projected. The win, paired with another projected win in swing state New Hampshire, makes it tougher for the Romney campaign to get to the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

President Barack Obama has won the state of Wisconsin and its 10 electoral votes, CBS News projected on air at about 8:30 p.m.

Wisconsin was an important swing state in this election. It was the seventh time in a row the state voted Democratic for president, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Obama and Mitt Romney competed fiercely for the state, home to Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan. Obama visited Wisconsin three times in the week before the election. Obama and rocker Bruce Springsteen rallied a crowd in Madison on Monday.

Concern grows about environmental impact of anti-bacterial chemical

Traces of a chemical compound called triclosan are showing up in the environment and raising concerns about its potential to impact human health. The St. Cloud Times reports that Prof. Bill Arnold from the University of Minnesota, who is researching triclosan, met with river advocates and citizens in St. Cloud. He told them that the chemical is showing up in increasing levels in sediment at the bottom of the Mississippi River.
