Ross Travis' basketball career at Penn State University is over and he is not pursuing a career as a professional player – not a professional basketball player, that is.

Travis, a 6-foot-7 forward from Chaska, Minnesota, is hoping a team takes a chance on him in the NFL Draft.

According to Big Ten Network, Travis hasn't played football since he was a freshman in high school. In fact, Penn State tweeted out a picture of Travis as a 10-year-old football player when they announced he was entering the draft.

"After the season, somebody contacted me and asked if I wanted to get into a Pro Day workout," Travis told StateCollege.com. "He saw raw talent, the last time I played football was in ninth grade. I gave it some thought and I had always thought about playing football again and I decided it was definitely a cool opportunity that I had to take."

Travis has reportedly worked out for several NFL teams, but the Vikings are not one of them, Darren Wolfson says.

According to SB Nation, Travis averaged 5.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season. If he transitions to the NFL the most logical position for him to play is tight end because he has the size and athleticism to be considered a matchup problem for defenses.

The NFL Draft starts Thursday, April 30.
