Minnesota Golden Gopher commit Chaz Lucius was selected with the 18th overall pick of the NHL Draft on Friday night, sending the Grant native to the Winnipeg Jets.
Lucius is a 6-foot, 172-pound center that was projected somewhere in the top 20 picks of the draft but missed most of last season with the U.S. national under-18 program with a leg injury.
Still, Lucius has a quick snapshot that has a knack for finding its way to the back of the net.
Lucius ranked 12th among North American skaters in this year's class and scored 31 goals and had 19 assists in 46 games while playing with the U.S. U17 program during the 2019-20 season.
While the Wild certainly would have liked to add an elite center prospect like Lucius, it turns out they will have to battle him in the Central Division instead.
