Check out the brackets for the high school football State Tournament

6A is Eden Prairie's to lose while every other bracket looks wide open.

Only a handful of section championships have yet to play out, so the brackets are all but set for the start of the Minnesota high school football State Tournament next week.

The top eight teams in all seven classes make up the tournaments. All quarterfinal games will played at neutral sites around the state before moving to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for the semifinals and championship games (Prep Bowl).

Class 6A

All four top seeds advanced from the 32-team field, including Eden Prairie (10-0), St. Michael-Albertville (9-1), Prior Lake (7-3) and Cretin-Derham Hall (7-2).

No. 2 Minnetonka is a major threat to win it all. Their only loss this season came to Eden Prairie, which also steam rolled Prior Lake, Edina, Maple Grove and their first-round opponent, Lakeville North.

Class 5A

Who wins in this class is anybody's guess. Believe it or not, Chaska, Robbinsdale and Northfield were bounced early in their sections, leaving the 5A state tourney without three of the top four in the final poll of the regular season. The highest ranked team remaining is Elk River at No. 3, and they're back after winning it all last season.

Class 4A

No. 1 Winona (10-0) hasn't been tested yet this season. If they have, it didn't show up on the scoreboard because they've beaten every opponent by at least 19 points. The same goes for No. 4 Marshall.

Winona, by the way, is back after losing in the Prep Bowl to Benilde-St. Margaret's last year.

Section 6 will be represented by the winner of Saturday's game between Big Lake and Becker.

Class 3A

We could very well have a first-round rematch of last year's Prep Bowl between Rochester Lourdes (they won it last year) and St. Croix Lutheran. Lourdes plays in its section final Saturday night against Plainview-Elgin-Millville.

Undefeated Pierz (No.2 in the state rankings) is the only other team back from last year's tournament.

Class 2A

After dominating at the 1A level, Minneapolis North is up a class this year and will face defending champion Caledonia in the first round.

Caledonia has seven of the last 10 2A state championships (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016).

Class 1A

Minneota, Mahnomen and Wabasso are back as state tournament regulars. This class is once again anybody's guess now that Minneapolis North is playing in 2A.

Class 9-Man

Perhaps Cromwell-Wright gets it done this year after falling to perennial power Grand Meadow in last year's Prep Bowl.
