What would Monday be without a dash of controversy?

And on the eve of the NCAA Basketball tournament, the 2016 edition of March Madness has plenty of it – and much more.

The No. 1 seeds are Kansas (South), North Carolina (East), Virginia (Midwest) and Oregon (West).

If you live and bracket by the numbers: oddsmakers at Vegas Insider have Kansas, North Carolina and Michigan State as the favorites at 5-1.

After that, Vegas Insider has Kentucky at 12-1, Virginia at 15-1, then Oregon and Villanova at 18-1.

Defending NCAA Champion Duke is 25-1

At the very bottom – play-in candidate Holy Cross is facing 9,999-1 odds, with eight other teams (including Weber State, UNC-Asheville, Southern U, Florida Gulf Coast, Fairleigh Dickinson, Austin Peay, CSU Bakersfield and Hampton) at 5,000-1.

William Hill U.S. likes UNC above all else.

Don't procrastinate. NCAA tournament play begins Tuesday. And if you want to see a bunch of your bracket options, we rounded up your options here.

Bracket controversy

What's upset many fans from San Diego to South Beach and all points in between is that it appeared the NCAA tournament selection committee had made its bracket decisions before all of the conference championships had concluded, the Associated Press reports.

Kentucky and coach John Calipari are screaming foul for the Wildcats' No. 4 seed in the East, even though they beat 3-seed Texas A&M on Sunday, ESPN says.

Then there's Michigan State. The Spartans were considered the tournament favorite heading into selection Sunday but now find themselves a 2-seed in the Midwest, CBS Sports says. Tom Izzo's Spartans are Big Ten Champions after beating Purdue Sunday.
