Talk about the money shot. A Cloquet man hit an amazing shot from the far blue line between periods of a UMD hockey game on Friday night, winning him a cool $50,000.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that Brent Lunde, 30, put the winning shot through a small hole in a board placed in front of the goal. The $50,000 comes from a promotional company hired by the university.

Lunde tells BringMeTheNews that he's no stranger to the ice. "I played hockey growing up in Hermantown. I played there through high school," he said.

Lunde has plans for the windfall, telling BringMeTheNews that he plans to put much of it into a college fund for his young son and a baby that he and his wife are expecting at the end of February.

The Northland's News Center reports that Lunde impressed the entire crowd at Amsoil Arena with his sure shot. The BulldogHockey blog noted that UMD hockey fans have watched numerous other contestants try the shot, without Lunde's luck.

A YouTube video provides two views of the shot.

Lunde had better luck than the team he went to watch. The Bulldogs were tied 2-2 with Western Michigan but fell in a shootout, snapping their five-game home winning streak.
