The Cheryl Reeve 'never-satisfied' approach is working; Lynx 5-0

Cheryl Reeve seems to be tough to please as a coach, but it is paying off on the court.

Despite the Lynx 4-0 record heading into their fifth game in Connecticut Friday night, coach Cheryl Reeve was still not satisfied; she demanded more.

Minnesota was the only undefeated team in the WNBA, but Reeve was not quick to hand out praise. "Our spacing wasn’t great, our decision-making wasn’t great. It was a matter of just not making simple plays. That’s one thing we enjoyed in New York, making simple plays."

Even the team's best player, Maya Moore, couldn't get much love from Reeve. In regards to her shooting this season the head coach said, "She’s definitely close."

After their 82-68 win Friday over the Sun, the Lynx are still perfect on the season: 5-0, and they were feeling it last night.

Reeve pointed out why she was hard on her squad despite last week's win, "We knew we had a lot of things we need to improve on from the first game, Connecticut is a very scrappy team. They have fast guards, and they have people crash the boards from all positions."

But finally, even Reeve couldn't help herself and she gave some praise. “We wanted to utilize a few things, keeping our rebounding up and limiting our turnovers which I think we did well."

Perhaps Reeve's approach is her way of taking a page out of the Bill Belichick play book. You won't see him gloat after wins, you barely ever see him smile. The Patriots head coach has even had some critical (yet true) remarks on his MVP Tom Brady in the past.

Her hard-nose coaching style and demand for greatness is part of the reason the Lynx have won three WNBA Championships and why five members of the team own Olympic Gold Medals and rings.

The Lynx will try to remain perfect when they host the San Antonio Stars Sunday night at 6 p.m.
