Minnehaha Academy's Chet Holmgren was announced as the winner of the 2021 Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award on Tuesday.
Holmgren averaged 21 points and 12.3 rebounds per game during his senior season while leading the Redhawks to the Class 3A state championship.
Holmgren is the second straight Mr. Basketball winner for the Redhawks as Jalen Suggs won the award last year. It marks the second time since the debut of the award in 1975 that a school has produced back-to-back Mr. Basketball award winners.
The feat was first accomplished in 2011 and 2012 when Hopkins players Joe Coleman and Siyani Chambers won the award.
With a blend of size and scoring ability, Holmgren is the No. 1 recruit in the nation according to ESPN. After winning four state titles during his high school career, the 7-foot-1 center listed Gonzaga, Georgetown, Memphis, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Ohio State as finalists in his recruitment.
