College Hockey: Lucia reaches 391 as Gophers beat Buckeyes

Don Lucia became the winningest hockey coach in University of Minnesota history in the Gophers 4-2 road victory over Ohio State Friday evening.

It was the 391st victory of Lucia's career, and moved him ahead of former Gopher coach Doug Woog on Minnesota's all-time wins list.

Eleven different Gophers tallied a point in the Minnesota victory, but none had more than one.

Justin Kloos put the Gophers on the scoreboard first at the 13:06 mark of the first period, but the lead didn't last long as Ohio State's Craig Dalrymple tied it up just 12 seconds later.

Later in the first it was the same story. Sam Warning put the Gophers on top 2-1, but again Ohio State answered to tie it at two, just seconds later.

Minnesota changed their fortune in the second, as Kyle Rau and Seth Ambroz each scored to push the Gopher lead to 4-2.

Adam Wilcox stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in the victory.

The Gophers and Ohio State continue their series on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.

UMD doubles up on Western Michigan

Dominic Toninato added a pair of insurance goals in the third period to help Minnesota Duluth beat Western Michigan 6-3, Friday night.

In all six Bulldogs tallied two points in the victory.

After a scoreless first period, the Western Michigan and the Bulldogs combined to score seven goals in the second period.

Bemidji State topples Minnesota State

Bemidji State scored three goals in the first period and they knocked off Minnesota State 5-2 Friday night in Bemidji.

John Parker had a pair of goals for Bemidji and Nate Arntz finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Beavers to the victory.

Bryce Gervais scored twice in the loss for the Mavericks.

Denver picks up road win in St. Cloud

Denver defeated St. Cloud State 3-2, Friday night in St. Cloud.

Adam Plant's first goal of the season at the 5:54 mark of the third period was the difference maker.

Jimmy Murray and Kellie Kossila scored the two St. Cloud State goals, but Denver goaltender Tanner Jaillet made 40 saves in the game.
