College Hockey: Rau's hat trick helps Gophers trounce Michigan

Michigan came in with the nation's highest-scoring offense, but it was the Gophers who had all the firepower Friday night as they beat the Wolverines 6-2, at Mariucci Arena.

Kyle Rau led the Gopher attack with a hat trick, while Mike Reilly also posted a big game with a goal and three assists.

Minnesota got out to a strong start, building a 5-0 lead, including a three-goal onslaught in the first period.

It was a nice bounce-back game for Adam Wilcox, who was looking to redeem himself after allowing the Wolverines five goals in Ann Arbor last month. This time Wilcoxº stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

The series continues on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Four third period goals lifts Bulldogs over Huskies

The University of Minnesota Duluth scored four goals in the third period to pull out a 4-2 victory over St. Cloud State on Friday night in Duluth.

Jared Thomas, Derik Johnson, Justin Crandall and Adam Krause all netted third period goals to help the Bulldogs pull out the victory.

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 34-20 in the game.

The two teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday.

Beavers pick up road win at Northern Michigan

Sam Rendle scored the lone goal in a 1-0 Bemidji State road win over Northern Michigan, Friday night.

It was the first road win for the Beavers since beating North Dakota on Oct. 10.

It was Rendle's second goal of the season. He was assisted by Sam Windle and Phil Brewer. That was all Bemidji State would need as Beaver goaltender Michael Bitzer stopped all 25 shots he faced.

Neither team was able to take advantage of any opportunities on the power play. The Beavers were 0-of-4 with the man advantage, while the Huskies were 0-of-3.

Bemidji State (11-14-4, 7-10-4) and Northern Michigan continue the weekend series on Saturday.
