The Gopher hockey team returned to Big Ten play with a 4-1 victory over Penn State Friday night at Mariucci Arena.
Taylor Cammarata and Leon Bristedt each had a goal and an assist in the Gophers victory.
It didn't take Minnesota long to get on the scoreboard, Hudson Fasching lit the lamp for Minnesota just 1:14 into the first period.
After Penn State tied the score at one, the Gophers rattled off three straight goals to take the 4-1 lead.
Eric Schierhorn stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced.
The series will continue Saturday night at Mariucii Arena.
St. Cloud State 5, Miami (OH) 1
The St. Cloud State Huskies cruised to a 5-1 victory over Miami of Ohio.
David Morley had a goal and an assist in the victory for St. Cloud, while St. Cloud State goaltender Charlie Lindgren did the rest. He stopped 35-of-36 shots.
The win improved the Huskies to 23-5-1, they are 13-3-1 in the NCHC.
The series continues on Saturday.

The University of Minnesota Duluth beat Colorado College 5-3 Friday night in Duluth.
Austin Farley and Alex Iafallo each have a pair of goals.
After Colorado College took a 2-0 lead, the Bulldogs rallied back with four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead.
Kessel returns as Gopher women shutout North Dakota

The Gopher women's hockey team beat North Dakota 3-0 Friday night at Ridder Arena.
Amanda Kessel returned to the Gopher lineup for the first time since the 2012-13 season. Right away she was making an impact as she had a pair of assists in the Gopher victory.
