College hockey roundup: Fasching, Kloos lead Gophers to shutout win

The Gopher men's hockey team made it four in a row Friday night when they beat Wisconsin 4-0 in Madison.

It was a big night for Hudson Fasching and Justin Kloos. Fasching had a goal and a pair of assists, while Kloos added a goal and an assist in the Minnesota win.

Gophers goaltender Eric Schierhorn stopped all 29 shots he faced for the shutout victory.

Minnesota (12-10, 7-2 Big Ten) continues the series with the Badgers on Saturday night.

Mavericks blank Lake Superior State

Minnesota State University skated to an 8-0 shutout victory over Lake Superior State Friday night.

MSU's Max Coatta scored a pair of goals to lead the Mavericks. C.J. Franklin had a goal and two assists, while Brett Knowles, Daniel Brickley, Teddy Blueger, Zeb Knutson and Michael Huntebrinker added the other MSU goals.

Mavericks goaltender Cole Huggins stopped all 17 shots that he faced.

The series will continue on Saturday.

Ferris State puts Bemidji State away in overtime

Mitch Maloney's second goal of the season was the game-winner for Ferris State Friday night. His overtime goal led the Bulldogs to a 3-2 victory over Bemidji State.

John Parker had a pair of goals in the game for Bemidji State. His second goal gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead midway through the third.

But with 25 seconds remaining Dennis Simon tied it up for Ferris State. Maloney then won it overtime.

The series continues Saturday night in Bemidji.

St. Cloud State smokes Western Michigan

Patrick Newell had a pair of goals and Joey Benik had a goal and three assists as St. Cloud State whipped Western Michigan 8-2 Friday night in St. Cloud.

The Huskies scored seven of their eight goals in the second and third periods.

Husky goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 32-of-34 shots he faced.

The series continues Saturday night in St. Cloud.
