College hockey roundup: Gophers shut down Minnesota State

The Gopher men's hockey team made its first trip to Mankato in nearly three years and came out of the Verizon Wireless Center with a 4-0 victory over Minnesota State, Friday night.

Minnesota took the early lead less than 90 seconds into the game when Justin Kloos scored off a helper from Hudson Fasching.

Fasching finished with two assists, while Taylor Cammarata had a goal and an assist in the victory.

Eric Schierhorn took care of the rest, posting his second career shutout.

The home-and-home series continues Saturday night at Mariucci Arena.

UMD blanked by Denver at home

The University of Minnesota-Duluth was shutout at home by Denver 3-0, Friday night.

Jarid Lukoservicius had a pair of goals in the victory for Denver, while Grant Arnold added the other to lock up the win.

Denver goaltender Evan Cowley stopped all 27 shots he faced.

The series will continue at Amsoil Arena in Duluth on Saturday.

Western Michigan no match for St. Cloud State

A four-goal third period led St. Cloud State to a 5-2 victory over Western Michigan Friday night.

Jimmy Murray scored twice and Ethan Prow had three assists.

St. Cloud State broke open a 1-all tie when Joey Benik took advantage of the power play to put the Huskies up 2-1 3:46 into the third.

The Huskies stretched the lead as as Murray and Judd Peterson added goals to push it to 4-1.
