College hockey roundup: Gophers win, Bulldogs tie again

Gopher men beat Northeastern 4-3, sweep the series

The Gopher men scored four goals in the first period, then held on for a 4-3 victory over Northeastern Saturday night at Mariucci Arena. It was the Gophers' first series sweep of the season, and they improved their record to 2-3.

Hudson Fasching scored two goals and Michael Brodzinski had a three-point night to lead Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers return to action at Notre Dame on Nov. 6.

UMD, Notre Dame tie 3-3 – again

For the second night in a row, the UMD Bulldogs skated to a 3-3 tie with Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, Saturday night.

Unlike Friday night, though, it was the Irish who got out ahead first and the Bulldogs were the ones who had to play catchup.

UMD senior Tony Cameranesi scored two goals in the second period and assisted on the game-tying goal by Neal Pionk early in the third period.

UMD was held scoreless on all 12 of its power play opportunities at Notre Dame over the two games.

The No. 5 Bulldogs host No. 7 UMass-Lowell next weekend.

St. Cloud State Huskies swept by Quinnipiac

St. Cloud State lost its second game to Quinnipiac 4-1 Saturday night, after losing 5-2 on Friday night. The Huskies outshot the Bobcats 42-30 in the game, but QU's goalie Michael Garteig made 41 saves.

SCSU hosts Miami University next weekend.

Minnesota State sweeps Beavers in Bemidji

Minnesota State Mankato beat Bemidji State 3-2 Saturday night in Bemidji to complete the two-game series sweep. MSU won Friday night by the same score of 3-2.

MSU scored two goals within 24 seconds in the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Bemidji State tied it up with a goal in the second, and it stayed that way until midway through the third period, when Jon Jutzi scored on a power play to give the Mavericks the win.

Gopher women defeat UMD 6-1

The Gopher women remain unbeaten after sweeping their two-game series against the UMD Bulldogs. They won 6-1 Saturday at Ridder Arena, as Dani Cameranesi scored two goals. The No. 1 ranked Gophers play the University of North Dakota on the road on Thursday and Friday.
