Just days after the Arizona Diamondbacks left Minnesota they have announced sweeping off-the-field changes, which could lead them right back to into the state, searching for their new manager.

On Friday, the Diamondbacks introduced former Oakland Athletics pitcher Dave Stewart as their general manager and then fired Kirk Gibson as manager.

Stewart's first major job as general manager will be finding the team's next manager and with former A's skipper Tony LaRussa now running the ship in Arizona as the Chief Baseball Officer, the Diamondbacks could be looking to another former Oakland player to join the staff.

According to the Pioneer Press' Mike Berardino, Twins bench coach Terry Steinbach's name figures to be among the most likely to join a revamped Diamondbacks staff.

Berardino reports that Steinbach is happy for Stewart, but hasn't thought about whether he would be interested in managing elsewhere.

But the Annandale resident and New Ulm native does have quite the resume:

  • Three-time All Star in Oakland, while playing for LaRussa and catching Stewart
  • Played for the A's and Twins over 14 Major League seasons
  • Won a World Series Championship with Oakland in 1989
  • Won three American League Championship Series' from 1988-90
  • Two seasons as the Twins bench coach
  • Draws high praise from Twins catches for his work on their fundamentals
  • Has gone 7-3 during the last two seasons when Gardenhire was gone, including a 4-1 mark this year and a 5-0 record in one-run games
