Count Bill O'Brien out of Minnesota Vikings head coaching search

Former Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien provided the first evidence that the Minnesota Vikings were getting rid of Leslie Frazier, when three weekends ago a report surfaced that ownership had contacted the Nittany Lions head man.

The same reports stated the Texans were the other team to have contacted O'Brien, and today it appears the Vikings wasted time with their call, as Houston has reportedly hired O'Brien as their next head coach.

Houston won their first two games of the season, but fired head coach Gary Kubiak at the beginning of December with the team losing its 11th straight game.

As for O'Brien, it became clear that he wanted to leave Penn State for the NFL via a number of reports that said the NFL buyout in his contract was reduced, and that he had grown weary of the politics surrounding the football program in Happy Valley.

With those circumstances matching up, the two sides became a perfect match.

After the call the Vikings made to O'Brien, no further reports indicated that Minnesota was interested in hiring the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator, and they are busy setting up interviews this week to fill their vacant head coaching spot, with Seattle coordinators Darell Bevall and Dan Quinn on the radar.
