Crazy, Stupid, Sports: Laettner's 'The Shot' jersey sells for $119K

Before gasping at the headline, keep in mind that Christian Laettner is, in his own right, a sports legend.

His game-winning, turn-around jumper at the end of the 1992 NCAA Tournament East Regional Final to lift Duke over Kentucky is one of the most famous plays in sports history.

That was nearly 22 years ago. As it turns out, Laettner gave his Duke jersey away following that game. The man he gave the jersey to just sold it at an auction for $119,500. That's $15,000 more than Michael Jordan's "Flu Game" shoes sold for at an auction last year, according to ESPN Sports Business reporter Darren Rovell.

Laettner, who now works as an assistant coach in the NBA Developmental League, was selected third overall by the Timberwolves in the 1992 NBA Draft. He played four seasons with the Wolves before finishing his 15-year career with stops in Washington, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas and Miami.

2012 marked the 20-year anniversary of the play. Laettner reflected on the moment in an interview with KIVI TV.
