Curing 'cabin fever' without leaving your own backyard

Has all of this snow and cold given you a severe case of cabin fever? Don't worry, you're not alone.

Minnesotans do all kinds of things outside to enjoy the cold weather.

Sure, there is ice fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling, but there are a lot of things that can be done without having to leave your own backyard.

With the Olympics coming up, a family in Crystal has constructed a luge track, according to KARE 11.

As only he could, KARE's Eric Perkins went over to give it a try.

Here is more from Perk's visit.

While it's not an Olympic sport yet, a University of North Dakota law professor's idea, some day, could be.

WDAY reported Jim Grijalva built a 40-foot high wall of ice in his backyard for people to use as a climbing wall. He constructed a structure that allowed him to place a hose on top that pours water down to make the vertical wall of ice.

Grijalva said that climbing the structure proved to be a lot tougher than you might think.

What else is there to do?

Construct an igloo or a really creative snow shark, which was crafted by three teens from New Brighton.

Earlier this month, we told you about a Cottage Grove man who crafted a snow kidney as a way to draw attention to his need for a kidney transplant. Jim Gorbunow's creation drew interest from a few people willing to donate one of theirs.

Still searching for ideas? Parents magazine online has a list of 20 things to do in the snow. The list suggests everything from snowball throwing contests, to outdoor scavenger hunts, to playing a game of outdoor mini-golf in the snow.
