Dalvin Cook 'ahead of schedule' in his comeback from a torn ACL

He could be back on the field for Organized Team Activities.

Things are looking up for Vikings running back Dalvin Cook as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL.

“Dalvin is ahead of schedule. I think that he’ll be doing some things in OTAs,” head coach Mike Zimmer said at the NFL owners meetings this week. “He won’t be doing everything, but he’ll be getting back into football as we go.”

Organized Team Activities begin in May, when Cook will be about seven months removed from the injury he suffered last October.

After rushing for 4,464 yards in three seasons at Florida State, the Vikings drafted Cook in the second round and he exploded onto the scene with 288 yards in his first three games, breaking the three-game rookie record of 271 yards set by Adrian Peterson in 2007.

Cook was on pace to finish 2017 with 1,400 rushing yards and 45 receptions before he tore his ACL during the second quarter of Minnesota's Week 4 game against Detroit.

According to Pro Football Focus, Cook's 18 forced missed tackles were second most in the NFL through four weeks last season. Minnesota running backs went on to force 94 missed tackles, second for the season only to New Orleans' 97.

OTAs are scheduled to begin in mid-May.
